Acceptable Use Policy or AUP

What you can host:

We are not prudes, however we are aware that the general public has to be considered when deciding what you can publish on our servers and what you cannot.We reserve the right to delete or request you remove any and all content which we deem unsuitable. Here is a short but not complete list to give you an idea:-

  • No Pornography
  • No un-linked files that are blatant archives
  • No storing of back-ups online
  • No materials deemed offensive to ordinary people or groups of people
  • Religious material or opinions that could offend other religions / people
  • Politically sensitive or extreme political material
  • No weapons : guns, knives, tasers, bows and dangerous chemicals. We have no objection to Martial Arts weapons so long as they cannot be used (or modified) as a weapon. This is by no means an exhaustive list.
  • No Sale of fake goods or goods making unrealistic claims (e.g. homeopathic remedies, magnetic bangles making or IMPLYING medical claims).
  • Any and all criminal activity as considered illegal in the UK.
  • Spam and mailing from mail lists to people you don’t know or have not given you explicit written consent. We are strict about mailing lists.

 

 

What do we mean by Unlimited:

Our hosting packages are generous, but the term Unlimited should be taken to mean unlimited “within reason”. Anyone misusing our services will be contacted and asked to remove material that we  deem to be excessive AND we reserve the right to delete any and all content which we deem to be to the detriment of Vault 1 or other users.  So… what would contravene our definition of unlimited?

Here is a short list of some (but not all) examples of contravening scenarios:-

  • Any amount of material on-line that would cause us to be unprofitable. SO if we are paying for hardware simply to host your website that is unreasonably large, we would ask you to remove some or all of the content.
  • If your website is causing our systems to slow to the detriment if other users.
  • If you store files that are not part of a website (i.e. un-linked files) or  files that form an “archive” linked or otherwise.
  • If you use the servers for back-ups. We recognise that some back-up plugins may save ONE zip file in order to move this to another destination, this is fine so long as its not in itself unreasonably huge.
